Pied a Terre for artist in New York's East Village
This apartment was a complete gut renovation after a fire destroyed most of the interior. The focus for the redesign was to provide a clean, simple living space that would highlight the couple's art collection, including a room designated as an art studio that utilized gallery lighting. The floor plan was reorganized to include an open kitchen, custom shelving and several highly tailored millwork elements. The custom gray-washed wood shelves carefully mask the television while creating an artful composition on the living room wall. Built-in, blackened steel shelving provides a dark backdrop for sculptural objects. The furniture was carefully selected to bring texture and offset the white gallery walls while reinforcing the aesthetic implied by the artwork.
